The Children First Education Fund will refrain from providing advice about the tax or other treatment of gifts and will encourage donors to seek guidance from their own professional advisers to assist them in the process of making their donation.

Due to the state income tax credit associated with donations, additional federal rules may apply which may have the effect of restricting a claim for a federal deduction or prohibit funds that have previously received a benefit from also receiving a state income tax credit. (IRS guidance on Charitable Contributions)

The Children First Education Fund will respect the intent of the donor relating to gifts for restricted purposes and those relating to the desire to remain anonymous.

In the event Children First receives donations that exceed the allowable tax credits, all donations received on the day the cap is reached, including online, in person, delivered, mailed or post-dated checks for that same day, will be placed in a lottery, and credits will be allocated in lottery order until the cap is reached. (CFEF Policy 3.2)
